Women's Ice Hockey Captures Two CHA Monthly Awards

WINTHROP, Mass. - The Penn State women's ice hockey team secured two College Hockey America monthly awards on Tuesday afternoon. Senior goaltender Josie Bothun was named the league's Goaltender of the Month for the ninth time in her career while graduate defenseman Maggie MacEachern was tabbed CHA Defensive Player of the Month for the first time.

Bothun in the month of September recorded 93 saves, GAA of 1.25, and a save percentage of .949. In Saturday's game against UConn on Sept. 30, she recorded save number 2,000 which placed her as just the third Nittany Lion to ever to hit that milestone. Bothun also allowed just one goal in Penn State's 2-1 victory over No. 5 Northeastern back on September 24. In her career, the Wyoming, Minn. native has tallied 2,011 saves and 61 wins as a Nittany Lion.

MacEachern led the Nittany Lions in blocked shots in September with 11 including six that came in the UConn series. She also tallied one assist on the game-winning goal against No. 5 Northeastern which aided in Penn State's 2-1 victory. The Defensive Player of the Month honor comes a week after the Brooklin, Ontario native was named CHA Defensive Player of the Week on September 25.

The Nittany Lions return to action on Friday, Oct. 6 when they begin a 12-game road trip starting at No. 3 Colgate. Puck-drop is set for 6 p.m.
