ERIE, Pa.- The Penn State women's ice hockey team captured the second game of the series at Mercyhurst with a 3-1 victory on Saturday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Mya Vaslet opened the scoring in the first period off a power-play goal to put Penn State ahead 1-0, 14:33 into the frame.
- Both sides exchanged goals in the second period beginning with a goal by Lexi Bedier 3:33 into the period off feeds by Tessa Janecke and Karley Garcia to put Penn State ahead 2-0.
- Mercyhust then scored in the closing minutes of the frame as Vanessa Upson scored the Lakers lone goal 14:48 into the period to narrow the score to 2-1.
- The Nittany Lions secured the win off a goal in the third period by Stella Retrum 14:09 into the frame to give Penn State the 3-1 victory.
GOALTENDERS
- Senior goalie Josie Bothun recorded 18 saves and allowed one goal to move her record to 6-7-1 on the year and to 5-1-0 in CHA play.
STATS AND NOTES
- Stella Retrum tallied her third multi-point game this season with a goal and an assist.
- Brianna Brooks tallied a pair of assists in the win.
- The Nittany Lions fired 47 shots on goal which is the most this season.
- Penn State moves to 5-1-0 in CHA play to remain in first place in the league.
