UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Lady Lions return to the court Wednesday, Nov. 29 to host Radford in a midweek non-conference match up. Tip time in the Bryce Jordan Center is set for 6 p.m. Penn State looks to remain undefeated at home in Wednesday night's contest as it looks to avenge an overtime loss to the Highlanders during the 2018 WNIT Tournament.
 
The Lady Lions received 16 votes in this week's NCAA Women's Basketball Associated Press Poll. This is the first time Penn State has received votes in the poll since the 2015-16 season.

LAST TIME OUT

  • The Lady Lions earned a persistent 73-66 win over Providence on Sunday, Nov. 26 in the Bryce Jordan Center.
  • Despite Providence returning from a 20-point deficit to pull in the lead at one point in the contest, Penn State prevailed using strength, ability to shoot from the free throw line and an 8-0 run in the closing minutes.
  • The Lady Lions defense was showcased in the 26 turnovers forced on the Friars including 13 on their point guard. Penn State converted 35 points off turnovers in the contest.
  • Ciezki led the team in scoring for the third consecutive game this season with a game-high 17 points. This was the sophomore's sixth time in double figures in just seven games. 
  • Marisa also cracked the double-digit mark to continue her streak of 10 or more points in every game so far this campaign. The senior+ notched 13 points, marking the 91st double figure outing of her career. 
  • Chanaya Pinto displayed offensive and defensive dominance, collecting a career high 14 points. She also posted five rebounds, three assists, a steal and a block. The graduate student shot 66.7% from the field and sunk five of her six free throws.
  • Marisa moved into the eighth spot all-time at Penn State in scoring, leveling up to 1,907 points.

LADY LIONS IN THE RANKS 

  • Makenna Marisa sits 10th in the conference in scoring average (16.0) and fifth in total points scored (112) behind Caitlin Clark, Shyanne Sellers Kaylene Smikle and Sara Scalia. 
  • Shay Ciezki ranks 11th in the Big Ten, averaging 15.6 points per game. Her total of 109 points through seven games sits at a rank of six. Ciezki is second in the Big Ten behind Caitlin Clark in made three-pointers with 21 which sits her 13th nationally.
  • The Lady Lions rank second in the conference in points scored with 593 through five games which sits them 12th nationally. 
  • Penn State's three-point percentage of 40.5% ranks it second in the Big Ten and at 12th in the nation. The team's 62 three pointers made is third in the league and 13th in the national rankings.
  • The Lady Lions also rank first in the league in steals (68), second in blocks (34) and third in the league in assists (125). 

2023-24 ACCOLADES

  • Shay Ciezki collected her first conference accolade of the season after totaling 62 points through three games including a personal best 27-point performance against Oklahoma State in the Baha Mar Pink Flamingo Championship. The Buffalo native made the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll on Nov. 27.
  • Marisa earned a spot on the three-person Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll (11/20) after her to double digit scoring outings against Kansas (34 points) and St. John's (15 points).
  • Marisa was named to the Nancy Lieberman Award Watch List for the second consecutive season. She also earned a spot on the All-Big Ten preseason team.
  • Owusu repeats on the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award Watch List.

SCOUTING THE HIGHLANDERS

  • The Highlanders are on a five-game losing streak over the last few weeks. 
  • Most recently, the team traveled to San Juan for the Puerto Rico Classic and dropped two games to Indiana State and Southern Illinois. 
  • Radford is 2-5 so far this season and 1-0 in away games.
  • Ashlyn Traylor-Walker leads the Highlanders in scoring with 119 points good for a 17.0 scoring average.  She also leads the team in rebounding and assists. 
  • Radford finished the 2022-23 season 14-17, losing in the second round of the Big South Tournament to Garner-Webb.

PENN STATE –RADFORD SERIES

  • The Lady Lions and the Highlanders have only met once before in 2018. Radford took a 63-62 win in overtime during the first round of the WNIT.
