KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Penn State men's soccer placed three student-athletes on United Soccer Coaches All-North Region First Team, the organization announced Tuesday. Peter Mangione, Femi Awodesu and Kris Shakes all earn the honor.
Mangione earns his third consecutive United Soccer Coaches All-Region honor. The senior forward collected first team his sophomore season and second team his junior season.
The Hunt Valley, Maryland native, was named the Big Ten Offensive Player of the Year for the second time in his career and earned a spot on first team All-Big Ten. Mangione led the Big Ten offensively with nine goals and five game-winning goals this season.
For his career, the three-time team captain currently ranks 13th in program history in goals (31), while ranking 14th in points (78).
Awodesu garners his second All-Region honor. He earned third team last season.
The senior defender has been a stalwart in the back line starting in 18 matches this season and contributing to seven shutouts. Offensively, the co-captain scored a career high three goals this season. His stellar performance this season earned him Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and a spot on first team All-Big Ten.
Shakes is selected for his first All-Region honor. The fifth-year goalkeeper was most recently named Big Ten Goalkeeper of the Year and placed on first team All-Big Ten.
The Parkland, Florida native has been outstanding in net for the Nittany Lions throughout his five seasons. Shakes ranks third all-time in saves (260) and fifth in shutouts (23).
Penn State now has 88 All-Region honorees dating back to 1963.
The Nittany Lions completed the 2023 season 10-4-5.
