No. 15 Women’s Ice Hockey Rallies to Defeat No. 13/13 Yale, 3-2

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -  The No. 15 Penn State women's ice hockey team rallied back from two goals down to defeat No. 13/13 Yale 3-2 on Friday evening. This is the third straight win against an ECAC team this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED 

  • Yale struck first 14:28 into the first period with a goal by forward Naomi Boucher with an assist by Jordan Ray.
  • Yale forward Anna Bargman put another point on the board 9:41 in the second period with assists by Sylvia Bojarski and Jordan Ray.
  • With only 3:12 left in the second period, Penn State answered on the power-play with a goal from forward Lyndie Lobdell assisted by Maggie MacEachern and Brianna Brooks.
  • Penn State forward Alyssa Machado tied the game up with an assist by Mya Vaslet with 5:06 left in regulation.
  • Shortly after, Penn State took the lead with a power-play goal by Julie Gough, assisted by Katelyn Roberts and Tessa Janecke with 3:46 left in the final period.

GOALTENDERS

  • Josie Bothun was in the net for the Nittany Lions, making 22 saves for a save percentage of .917, holding the Bulldogs to only two points.
  • Bothun is now 9-7-1 on the season.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Tonight's win against Yale marks the first time Penn State women's ice hockey has defeated the Bulldogs in program history. The series record is now 2-1-1 in favor of the Bulldogs.
  • Fifth-year forward Julie Gough recorded her fifth goal this season with the game-winning goal.
  • Yale is Penn State's fourth East Coast Athletic Conference (ECAC) opponent this season. Penn State is 3-4-0 against ECAC teams this season.
  • Penn State's win-streak extends to six on the year.

  • The Nittany Lions are back in action on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Pegula with the chance to sweep the Bulldogs. Puck drop is slated for 2 p.m.
