No. 20 Women’s Lacrosse Heads to Pittsburgh on Tuesday

UNIVERSITY PARK, PA.- No. 20 Penn State women's lacrosse travels to Pittsburgh for an in-state match-up against its only ACC opponent this season. First draw at Highmark Stadium in Pittsburgh, Pa. is set for 4 p.m. The Nittany Lions look for their fourth consecutive win on Tuesday.
 
Penn State is ranked 20th nationally in the ILWomen/IWLCA Poll and second in the Big Ten this week.

LAST TIME OUT

  • Penn State took down No. 14 Princeton 16-14 on Saturday, March 18. Gretchen Gilmore put the Nittany Lions ahead by two with 3:57 remaining on the clock in the fourth quarter, earning Penn State a 16-14 win. 
  • Kristin O'Neill and Gretchen Gilmore each scored 6 goals for the Nittany Lions.
  • Brooke Hoss posted her second hat trick of the season.
  • Sammy Dupcak led the defense with four caused turnovers, three ground balls and two draw controls.

  • Penn State ranks first in the Big Ten in caused turnovers (95) and ninth nationally as well as 11th in ground balls (151).

  • The Nittany Lions and the Panthers have a brief history, playing each other for the first time last year on April 12, 2022, when Penn State won 15-7.

  • O'Neill, Dupcak and Ellie Hollin were named Big Ten Players to Watch in the preseason.
  • O'Neill was also named to The Tewaaraton Award Watch List and selected by Inside Lacrosse as a Top 100 Returning Player at the start of this season.
  • Freshmen Erika Ho, Maggie Golder and Emma Kelly were placed on Inside Lacrosse's Power Top 100 Freshman List.
  • Elise Smigiel joins Penn State as a sophomore transfer from Marquette. 

2023 CAPTAINS

  • Head coach Missy Doherty named seniors Rachel Spilker and Regan Nealon and junior Kristin O'Neill as captains for the 2023 season.
  • This is Spilker's second season as a co-captain for the Nittany Lions.
