UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. --- Penn State men's golf student-athletes James Allen, Jake Griffin and Patrick Sheehan have been named Big Ten Men's Golf Preseason Honorees, as announced by the conference office Tuesday afternoon.
Allen enters his senior season in 2023-24 and is coming off a strong junior campaign in which he competed in 11 events and finished third on the team with a 72.37 stroke average. He was Penn State's top finisher at three events in the spring of 2023, including the 2023 Big Ten Championships.
Griffin ranked second on the team as a sophomore a season ago with a 71.96 stroke average. A mainstay in the Penn State lineup throughout his two years in Happy Valley, Griffin has collected six top-10 finishes throughout his first two collegiate seasons and earned GCAA All-Northeast Region honors following the 2022-23 slate.
A two-time GCAA All-Region selection, Sheehan returns for his fifth season in the Blue & White. The Doylestown, Pa. native has led the Nittany Lions in stroke average in each of the last two seasons and is coming off a 2022-23 campaign that saw him collect three top-10 finishes.
The Nittany Lions open the fall portion of their 2023-24 season later this week when Penn State travels to the Marquette Intercollegiate at Erin Hills Sunday through Tuesday.
