UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 11/10 Penn State women's ice hockey team tied UConn 1-1 to conclude the two-game series on Saturday.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Huskies struck late in the first period, with a power play goal from forward Brooke Campbell with 7:48 remaining in the period.
- After a scoreless second period, the Nittany Lions tied the game up late in the third period with 7:15 left in the frame off a goal by Alyssa Machado and an assist by Lyndie Lobdell. The tying goal later sent the game into overtime.
- Both teams were not able to score in the five-minute overtime period, resulting in a tie.
GOALTENDERS
- Senior goaltender Josie Bothun held the Huskies to only one goal on 18 shots.
- UConn's goaltender Tia Chan held the Lions to one goal on 40 shots.
STATS AND NOTES
- The Nittany Lions had a total of 40 shots on goal, while the Huskies only had 17.
- Senior Alyssa Machado scored her second goal of the season.
- UConn now leads the all-time series 4-0-3.
- Goalie Josie Bothun hit the 2,000 save mark as she now sits as the third Nittany Lion to hit the milestone.
- The attendance was 1,507, the fifth largest crowd in Penn State women's hockey history.
