Women's Hockey Travels to RIT for Two-Game Series

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's ice hockey team returns to College Hockey America play as they travel to face RIT for a two-game series beginning on Friday, January 12 at 6 p.m. in Rochester, N.Y.

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

  • RIT is currently 10-9-2 this season, and 4-4-0 in conference play.
  • Leading the Tigers on offense is junior Kylie Aquaro who has recorded six goals and 11 assists for 17 points this season.
  • Between the pipes for RIT is junior Sarah Coe with a .915 save percentage and 321 saves this season.
  • The Tigers are coming off a pair of losses against Brown last weekend.

SERIES HISTORY

  • Penn State is hitting the road to face conference opponent RIT this weekend in Rochester.
  • The Nittany Lions currently lead the series 31-16-6, with their last meeting being in February 2023 with a Penn State win.
  • Within the last ten matchups, Penn State leads 7-0-3. 

NITTANY LIONS PICK UP TWO CHA HONORS

  • Defensive players Lyndie Lobdell and Karolina Hengelmüller both earned CHA awards after the weekend series versus Union.
  • Senior Lyndie Lobdell was named the CHA Defensive Player of the Week after recording a goal and an assist in the Nittany Lion's 6-2 win on Saturday. On the season, Lobdell leads the defense in goals with six.
  • Freshman Karolina Hengelmüller was named the CHA Rookie of the Week after scoring her first collegiate goal in Saturday's win. Hengelmüller currently has a goal, two assists, and 10 blocked shots this season.

FACING A FAMILIAR FACE

  • Former Penn State women's ice hockey assistant coach Celeste Brown is facing the Nittany Lions, this time as the Tigers head coach.
  • Brown worked with the Nittany Lions from 2017-20 where she worked with the power play and forwards units.
  • This is Brown's fourth season with the Tigers.

HOLY POWER-PLAY!

  • Penn State scored three power-play goals in the team's latest win against Union on Jan. 6.
  • This was the first time the Nittany Lions have scored three power-play goals since November 27, 2021, when Penn State accomplished this against Ohio State.
  • The Nittany Lions scored two of the power-play goals while they were on a five-minute major power-play.
