West Point, N.Y.- The Penn State Swimming and Diving team began the new year with a victory against Army. Both the men's and women's teams dominated the Black Knights posting fast times and record-breaking dives.
The men's team won by a score of 183-117, while the women's team posted a score of 156.5 to beat the Black Knights 156.5-143.5.
TOP SWIMS
Sophomore Morgan Moore continued to dominate distance swims, setting the tone early for the Nittany Lions by winning the mile swim with a time of 16:37.60.
Sophomore Catherine Meisner had another great time in the 200-yard free swimming 1:49.58. She continues to improve this season and added a second win in the 500-free.
Senior Elli Brandbergh and junior Molly Carson finished back-to-back in the 100-free posting times that were a second apart 55.61 and 56.30.
Senior Cat Stanford impressed again winning the 50-free in 23.39 as she closes in on another season of dominance with the Nittany Lions. That wasn't the end of the night for Stanford. She won the 100-free in a blazing fast time of 51.07.
Sophomore Carly Sebring sealed the win for the Nittany Lions with her victory in the 100-fly swimming to a time of 56.08.
On the men's side, sophomore Eduardo Cisternas continued to build upon a strong season winning multiple events starting with the mile swim in a fast time of 15:15.57. Cisternas also won the 500-yard free in 4:26.91.
The Nittany Lions swept the 100-back beginning with Sophomore Cooper Morely who followed Cisternas's strong opening performance winning the 100-back in a fast time of 48.08. Senior Lachlan Byrne followed Morely with a time of 49.90 and Jack Harvey finished third with a 50.15.
Junior Victor Bagana continued to improve in the new year swimming to a fast time of 20.14 in the 50-free. Bagana added to his impressive evening winning the 100-fly in 47.91.
Freshman Tylor Kim continued to impress this season winning the 100-free with a time of 44.67.
Relays
Both relay teams for the men and women were victorious in the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard free relay.
Dives
Freshman Hayden Elliott celebrated his birthday by diving to a victory in the 357.60 in the three-meter dive and 358.05 in the one-meter dive which earned him his second victory of the night.
On the women's side, graduate student Daphne Wils had a historic night diving to a pool record of 320.25 in the one-meter dive.
In the three-meter dive, freshman Kailey Koval continued to impress this season, winning with a 287.93.
Next Up
The Nittany Lions will travel to Blacksburg, Va. next weekend for a matchup against Virginia Tech on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m.
