Women's Ice Hockey Downs RIT 4-0

ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Four unanswered goals in the third period propelled the Penn State women's ice hockey team to a 4-0 shutout victory over RIT on Friday night.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • After a scoreless two periods of play, Penn State started its four-goal scoring run with a goal by Tessa Janecke with 10:24 remaining in the period to give the Nittany Lions a 1-0 lead.
  • Katelyn Roberts then found the back of the net on the power-play with 6:02 remaining in the frame to put Penn State ahead 2-0.
  • Stella Retrum soon followed with a goal of her own with 4:52 remaining in the game to put Penn State in a comfortable 3-0 lead.
  • Retrum added one more goal in the game with 3:05 left in regulation to secure the 4-0 shutout victory. 

GOALTENDER

  • Goalie Josie Bothun stopped all of RIT's 22 shots on the night for her second shutout victory of the season.
  • Her record improves to 10-8-1 overall this season.

STATS AND NOTES

  • Bothun now surpassed the CHA record for most shutouts by a goaltender with her 20th career shutout victory.
  • Tessa Janecke scored her first goal since Dec. 1 against Robert Morris.
  • Janecke also recorded her second straight three-point game with one goal and two assists.
  • Stella Retrum tallied her second multi-goal game with two on the day.
