Dylan Lugris Announced as One of 18 Nominees for the 2024 Hockey Humanitarian Award

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Junior Dylan Lugris (Buffalo, N.Y.) is one of 18 nominees for the 2024 Hockey Humanitarian Award, as announced by the Hockey Humanitarian Award Foundation on Wednesday, January 17. Lugris joins Notre Dame's Ryan Bischel as the only two Big Ten nominees.

The award, which is celebrating its 29th season, is presented annually to college hockey's finest citizen — a student-athlete who makes significant contributions not only to his or her team but also to the community-at-large through leadership in volunteerism.

Lugris has been the driving force behind the Penn State Sled Hockey Classic which raised over $20,000 last year for the State College Coyotes sled hockey team. The charity event, spearheaded by Lugris, is completely player driven by Lugris and his teammates from the planning and organization through the execution of the event. The second-annual Penn State Sled Hockey Classic is scheduled for February 3 inside Pegula Ice Arena.

Finalists for the 2024 Hockey Humanitarian Award will be announced in February. The 2024 recipient will be announced on Friday, April 12th during the NCAA Men's Frozen Four weekend in St. Paul, Minn.

"The Coyotes are an inspiration to our program and are a great group of people who share our love of the sport of hockey," mentioned Lugris. "Last year's event was such a success and brought great awareness to the sport of sled hockey that we realized it's a great way to grow the game and could become an annual event moving forward. We hope that this year, and into the future, we can surpass the attendance and the total money raised."
