Swimming and Diving’s Victor Baganha Wins Big Ten Swimmer of the Week

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State Nittany Lions swimmer Victor Baganha was honored as the Big Ten Swimmer of the Week for his performance this past weekend against the Army Black Knights.  

Baganha placed first in two individual events and two relay events helping lift the Nittany Lions over the Black Knights by a score of 156.5 to 143.5.  

Baganha led off the evening winning the 200-yard medley relay posting the second fastest split on the team with a 21.42. The relay squad of Baganha, Cooper Morley, Mariano Lazzerini and Lachlan Byrne posted a time of 1:28.67 which was good enough for first place.  

In the 50 free, Baganha took the top spot with a blazing fast time of 20.14. He followed that performance with another victory in the 100 fly, touching the wall in 47.91.  

Baganha finished the dual meet against Army with yet another victory in the 200 free relay alongside teammates Tylor Kim, Cooper Morley and Mariano Lazzerini. The team finished with a time of 1:21.13 and Baganha posted the fastest leg of the relay with a 19.77.  

Baganha, a junior from Belo Horizonte, Brazil, wins Big Ten Swimmer of the Week honors for the second time this season. A month earlier, Baganha was honored for his performance at the Big Al invitational in which he turned in several top times over 10 different events.  

Baganha and the Nittany Lions are back in the pool this weekend facing off against the Virginia Tech Hokies on Saturday, Jan. 20 at 10 a.m. in Blacksburg, Va.
