UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's ice hockey team fell to the Syracuse Orange 3-1 in the first game of the series on Friday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first to strike was Syracuse, with a power-play goal coming off the stick of Alexandria Weiss with 12:31 left in the first period.
- Nittany Lion forward Mya Vaslet answered with a power play goal with 13:56 left in the second period to even the score at 1-1.
- The Orange struck next with an unassisted goal coming off the stick of Darci Johal with 16:12 remaining in the second period.
- Syracuse sealed the win with an empty Penn State goal with seconds left in the contest off the stick of Tatum White to result in the 3-1 loss.
GOALTENDERS
- Penn State goaltender Josie Bothun made seven saves, resulting in a .778 save percentage.
- Senior Nittany Lion goaltender Annie Spring entered in the middle of the final period, making three saves for a perfect save percentage.
- In between the pipes for the Orange was Allie Kelley, making 11 saves recording a .786 save percentage.
STATS AND NOTES
- This is the Nittany Lions' third time facing the Orange this season. The two prior games both resulted in a win for Penn State.
- With today's goal, Mya Vaslet now sits at 16 points scored this season with eight goals and eight assists.
- Penn State had a total of 42 shots on goal while holding Syracuse to only 13. The Nittany Lions currently lead the CHA in shots on goal.
