Women's Hockey Completes Sweep of Lindenwood with 6-1 Victory

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State women's ice hockey team completed the series sweep of Lindenwood with a 6-1 victory over the Lions on Saturday afternoon.  
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • With 17:44 remaining the first period, Stella Retrum was able to find the back of the net off a feed by Tessa Janecke to put Penn State ahead 1-0.
  • Seven minutes later, Maddy Christian would steal the puck and score to give the Nittany Lions a 2-0 lead after the first period.
  • The Nittany Lions found the back of the net on the power-play in the second period, off the stick of Brianna Brooks with 4:22 remaining in the frame to put the Nittany Lions ahead 3-0.
  • In the third period, Lindenwood scored their lone goal of the day coming on the power-play with 19:05 remaining in the frame to cut the Nittany Lion lead to 3-1.
  • Penn State then fired three unanswered goals first from Brooks with 16:09 left in regulation off assists by Leah Stecker and Maddy Christian to put Penn State ahead 4-1.
  • Katelyn Roberts followed suit with 8:37 remaining as she scored her third goal of the series to put Penn State ahead 5-1.
  • Mya Vaslet then secured the victory coming with 7:17 remaining in the third period to result in the 6-1 victory. 

GOALTENDERS

  • Katie DeSa recorded her third straight victory in net allowing just one goal and stopping 20 shots. Her record improves to 3-1-0 on the year. 

STATS AND NOTES

  • Brianna Brooks recorded her second multi-goal game of the season.
  • Tessa Janecke upped her point-streak to three with a pair of assists in the win.
  • Penn State has not lost to Lindenwood since Feb. 23, 2018.
  • Karolina Hengelmüller tallied her first multi-assist game of her career.
  • Penn State has won their last three games.
  • The Nittany Lions improve their to 16-11-1 and 11-3-0 in CHA play.
