UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's gymnasts Josh Karnes and Landon Simpson earned Big Ten Weekly Awards, the conference announced Monday. Karnes was named Gymnast of the Week, while Simpson was dubbed Freshman of the Week.
The duo's performance helped the Nittany Lions secure a 393.800-370.450 victory over Army in their season opener.
Karnes led the Nittany Lions with three event victories. The Erie, Pa. native scored a 13.65 on floor, 14.90 parallel bars and 14.05 on high bar. He also placed third on pommel horse with a score of 13.15.
The junior was named Big Ten Gymnast to watch in December ahead of the 2024 season.
Simpson made his collegiate debut on Friday winning the pommel horse with a score of 13.65 and finished third on vault with a 14.00.
The Nittany Lions will compete at the West Point Open this weekend Jan. 12-13.
