UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State men's and women's fencing teams sent eight fencers to compete at the January North American Cup (NAC) in San Jose, Calif. This tournament, the first competition of the 2024 New Year, spanned from Jan. 5-8 and was held at the San Jose McEnery Convention Center.
Freshman and California native Alessio Fukuda competed well in his home state and led the Nittany Lions with a 13th place finish in Division I men's foil. He also came in 31st place in the junior event. Fellow freshman Spencer Burke finished in 52nd place in Division I and 40th place in juniors. In women's foil, Eden De La Cruz tied for 140th place in Division I and took 56th place in juniors.
Neil Lilov, competing in men's saber, finished in 27th place in the Division I event and 35th in the juniors event. On the women's saber side, Ola Strzalkowski came in 35th place in Division I with Aurora Colter in 120th.
Tingwei Xu came in 14th place in Division I men's epee with Devin Tafoya tying with Byung Kim for 93rd place.
