UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's soccer defender Femi Awodesu has signed a second team contract with MLS NEXT Pro team Houston Dynamo 2, the team announced Monday.
The contract is an MLS NEXT PRO contract for 2024 plus a club option for 2025.
"We are so proud of Femi and very happy to see him sign his first professional soccer contract," said head coach Jeff Cook. "He has earned this opportunity through his commitment to his development on and off the field. His incredible determination to maximize the opportunities he has had with us at Penn State. I am very excited to follow his path and we will all continue to support him in his journey. Houston has signed a top talent and first-class person to their organization!"
A four-year starter, Awodesu has played in 65 games. In those games, the Philadelphia native has contributed to 21 clean sheets. Offensively, Awodesu has scored six goals and notched an assist in his career.
The 2023 Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year and first team All-Big Ten selection captained a back line that held their opponents to .79 goals per game in 2023, which is the program's lowest percentage in the last 10 years.
Awodesu was a part of the 2021 and 2023 Big Ten Regular Season Champion teams and the Nittany Lions' 2020 and 2021 NCAA Tournament runs.
Awodesu will join five Penn State men's soccer alumni who currently play in the MLS.
The Dynamo will open the 2024 season against SKC II on Sunday, March 17 at 5 p.m. at SaberCats Stadium.
