ROSEMONT, Ill. – Freshman Reese Laubach (San Jose, Calif.) was named Big Ten Hockey's Third Star of the Week following a three-goal, four-point weekend in a home split against No. 14 Michigan as announced by the conference office on Tuesday morning.
This marks the first weekly accolade for the rookie and the seventh of the year for Penn State as Laubach becomes the fourth different Nittany Lion to garner weekly praise this season joining fellow freshmen Aiden Fink and Matt DiMarsico and junior Ryan Kirwan.
Laubach led the Big Ten with three goals in the two games while his four points were also tops in the conference over the weekend and tied for the fifth most in the nation.
The San Jose, California native tallied a goal and an assist in Friday's loss before registering his first career multi-goal game as he bookended the scoring in a 4-2 victory on Saturday night.
Laubach's 10 goals this season are tied for the third most on the team and rank fourth in the Big Ten among freshmen. He's added nine assists for 19 points a mark that's good for sixth on the team and 10th in the conference for rookie scoring.
Penn State concludes its 2023-24 home slate with a Big Ten series against No. 6 Wisconsin on Friday and Saturday before concluding the regular season at Ohio State on March 1-2.
