No. 15 Women's Hockey Hosts RIT for CHA Semifinals

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - Playoff time has begun for the No. 15 Penn State women's ice hockey team as stay home to begin their College Hockey America Tournament run by hosting the 2024 semifinals in a best-of-three series against RIT starting on Friday, Feb. 23 at 2 p.m.

PARKING

  • Parking for Penn State women's ice hockey games at Pegula Ice Arena will be available at the following locations beginning two hours prior to the start of each game: 
  • Stadium West, Jordan East, Porter North
  • No charge with a valid Penn State parking pass 
  • $5.50 prepaid through ParkMobile (season package available for $5 per game): ParkMobile Link
  • $10 day-of-event without a valid permit or prepayment (pay station or ParkMobile app – zone no. 95112) 
  • ParkMobile prepayment availability ends at 11:59 p.m. the night before each event. Events will not be selectable on the site after that time, and payment must then be made on site upon arrival to event parking staff (cash only).  

SERIES HISTORY

  • This weekend will mark the 58th and 59th meetings between Penn State and RIT
  • The Nittany Lions currently lead the all-time series 33-17-7.
  • The pair met last weekend for a two-game series to end the regular season, which resulted in a Penn State win and tie.
  • In CHA postseason play, the Tigers currently lead the all-time series 5-4 with the last CHA tournament meeting coming on March 5, 2020 where the Nittany Lions downed RIT 4-1.  

SCOUTING THE TIGERS

  • RIT is currently 13-17-3 overall, and 7-12-1 in CHA play.
  • Leading the Tigers on offense is Kylie Aquaro, who has totaled 10 goals and 16 assists for 26 points this season.
  • In the net for RIT is Sophia Bellina who has recorded 549 saves for a .935 save percentage this season. 

JANECKE JUST SHY OF 100 POINTS

  • Sophomore Tessa Janecke is only one point away from hitting 100 career points.
  • Janecke currently has an average of 1.53 points per game.
  • She is currently tied for third in the nation in points scored this season with 52.
  • The Orangeville, Ill. native is also just two points away from becoming the all-time CHA tournament scoring leader in program history.  

PENN STATE REENTERS THE RANKINGS

  • The Nittany Lions were ranked 15th in the most recent USCHO.com and USA Hockey/The Rink Live poll after their win over RIT last weekend.
