No. 22 Women’s Lacrosse Edged Out by Princeton, 18-13

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – No. 22 Penn State women's lacrosse falls to Princeton in a 18-13 decision at Panzer Stadium Saturday afternoon. 
 
Penn State moves to 2-2 overall (0-0 Big Ten), while Princeton gained its first win of the season, 1-1 (0-0 Ivy). The Tigers lead the all-time series 11-7.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED
First Quarter – PSU 4, Princeton 3
Ally Lipkin opened the game's scoring with a free position goal three minutes into the first quarter. Princeton then went on a two-goal run before three consecutive goals were scored by Meghan Murray, Sammy Dupcak and Kristin O'Neill
 
Second Quarter – PSU 9, Princeton 8
Princeton started off the second quarter with three consecutive goals to take the lead. O'Neill and Abernathy capitalized on free position attempts to even the score 6-6. O'Neill collected her 24th career hat trick to put the Nittany Lions up 9-8 at halftime. 
 
Third Quarter – PSU 13, Princeton 10
Senior captain Gretchen Gilmore took advantage of a Princeton turnover and scored her fifth goal of the season to open the third quarter. O'Neill, Emma Kelly and Gilmore contributed to Penn State's four goals in the third quarter. 
 
Fourth Quarter – PSU 13, Princeton 18
Princeton scored nine straight goals to ultimately win the game. The Tigers held the Nittany Lions to just four shots in the fourth quarter. 
 
GAME NOTES
>> Goalkeeper Sydney Manning faced a season high 32 shots while registering 11 saves.
>> O'Neill led the scoring efforts with four goals. O'Neill has scored at least one goal in every game this season. 
>> Meghan Murray and Gilmore scored two goals each. Payton Wainman, Abernathy, Kelly, Dupcak and Lipkin all notched one. 
>> The defense scooped up 13 groundballs and caused seven turnovers. 
>> Princeton held the 32-30 edge on shots.
