WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind.- The Penn State Nittany Lions Women's Swimming and Diving Team built upon a strong first day of swims with yet another day of solid swimming.
Penn State currently sits in seventh place as a team with 305 points of the twelve teams. They trail sixth place Purdue University by 58 points.
The Nittany Lions had four individuals make the finals and a relay team that finished in fourth place on the day.
Margaret Markvardt was the highlight of the day for the Nittany Lions, she qualified for the 100 fly final alongside teammate Maura Fluehr with a fast time of 53.33 which was good for 10th seed. Fluehr finished the prelims in 13th with a time of 53.79.
Markvardt built upon her marks in the final finishing with a fast time of 52.97 which landed her in ninth place. Right behind her in 10th position was Fluehr with 53.30.
In the 400 IM prelims, Abby Henderson qualified for the final with a time of 4:19.26. In the final, Henderson touched the wall with a time of 4:21.41 which placed her in 23rd.
Catherine Meisner built upon her strong weekend of swims by qualifying for the 200 free final in a time of 1:46.59. She finished the final in 11th position with a time of 1:46.30.
Molly Carson was the finalist for the 100 back and turned in two great swims today to finish in 10th. Her prelim time of 53.91 was bested by her finals time of 53.45.
Finally in the pool, the Nittany Lions relay team of Carson, Cat Stanford, Ellie Brandbergh and Markvardt finished in fourth place in the 200 free relay with a time of 1:30.14.
On the platform, Daphne Wils followed up her performance yesterday in the one-meter dive by finishing 10th in the three-meter dive with a score of 317.60.
The Nittany Lions will finish the Big Ten Championship tomorrow Saturday, Feb. 24 with prelims at 10 a.m. and finals at 5 p.m.
