UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. — The No. 15 Penn State women's ice hockey team blanked Mercyhurst 4-0 in the opening game of the series on Friday night.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Penn State opened the scoring in the first period off a goal by the stick of senior defenseman Lyndie Lobdell 13:48 into the first period during a power-play to give Penn State a 1-0 lead.
- The Nittany Lions came in quick with another goal scored by sophomore forward Maddy Christian with only 5:44 left in the first period with assists from Leah Stecker and Brianna Brooks.
- Brooks then found the back of the net with only 1:22 left in the second period to put the Nittany Lions up 3-0 entering the third period.
- Sophomore Tessa Janecke then scored her 14th goal of the season 2:01 into the third period to seal the 4-0 shutout victory.

Katie DeSa stood in goal for the Nittany Lions. She had 24 saves and did not allow any goals from Mercyhurst. Her record improves to 4-1-0 for the season.
STATS AND NOTES
- Brianna Brooks scored her tenth goal of the season.
- Katie DeSa recorded her second shutout win of her career.
- Penn State remains first in the CHA with a record of 12-3-0.
- Penn State had 39 shots on goal while Mercyhurst had 22.
- This is the fourth win in a row for the Nittany Lions.
