UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women's fencing team had seven fencers compete in the Northwestern Duals on Saturday, Feb. 3 in Evanston, Ill.
The Nittany Lions beat FDU 17-10 with 9 wins in foil and 8 in epee and posted a narrow win over Denison 14-13 with 7 wins in both foil and epee but fell short to Northwestern 20-7, Airforce 18-9 and UCSD 17-10.
In her return to the strip after 8 months out due to injury, Samantha Catantan posted a 9-2 overall record competing in foil, going 2-0 against UCSD, 3-0 against FDU and 2-1 against both Denison and Airforce. Arianna Proietti went 10-5 on the day, including 3-0 wins over Airforce and FDU. Ariel Ratsep went 7-7 and Eden De La Cruz went 2-3.
In epee, Kateryna Chorniy grabbed 3-0 wins against both FDU and Denison to go 10-5 on the day. Jaclyn Khrol and Axelle Wasiak each went 9-6 with Khrol tallying a 3-0 win over UCSD and Wasiak a 3-0 win over FDU.
