UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State Nittany Lions Freshman diver Kailey Koval was awarded Big Ten Freshman of the Week for her outstanding performance against the Villanova Wildcats this past Friday.
Koval, who wrapped up an incredible rookie regular season for the Nittany Lions against Villanova, won both the one and three-meter dives by over 15 points.
In the one-meter dive, Koval bested the second place Wildcat with a margin of 18 points in one of her top dives of the year.
In the three-meter dive, Koval also took the top spot this time over teammate Charlize Beniquez. Her dive that scored a 323.85 was another top dive of her remarkable freshman season.
Koval is a native of Katy, Texas and has solidified herself as one of the top divers on the team with her performances this season. She has qualified for both diving events in the Big Ten Championships.
Koval and the rest of the Nittany Lions will travel to the Big Ten Championships Feb. 21-24 in West Lafayette, Ind. to begin their postseason.
