Two Top Three Finishes for Swimming and Diving at Men’s Big Ten Championship

COLUMBUS, Ohio- The Penn State Nittany Lions Men's Swimming and Diving team wrapped up their second day of the Big Ten Championship posting two top three finishes. 

Four different Nittany Lions qualified for the finals in the 50 free and the 400 medley relay team posted their second straight school record after swimming to the 200 medley relay school record Wednesday night. 

The Nittany Lions currently sit in seventh place out of the eight teams that are in Columbus with 229 points. 

In the 50 free, Junior Victor Baganha's prelim swim placed him third in a blazing fast time of 19.37. Baganha was joined in the finals by teammates sophomore Mariano Lazzerini who finished in 19.71, sophomore Cooper Morley who finished in 19.80, and freshman Tylor Kim who finished in 20.09. 

Baganha shined in the final again, finishing third with a lightning fast time of 19.14, shaving .23 of a second off his qualifying time and giving him a season best. 

Also in the final, Lazzerini finished in 16th place with a time of 19.77, followed by Morley who finished in 19.83. In 24th, Kim finished with a time of 20.26. 

With his swim in the prelims Lazzerini updated his NCAA B Cut time. 

In the 400 medley relay, Morley, Lazzerini, and sophomore Mathew Bittner swam to their second straight school record time and top three finish as a group with a third place swim in a time of 3:05.06. With that swim the group also achieved a NCAA B Cut time.

In the one-meter dive, senior Kevin Sullivan qualified for the final after finishing seventh in the prelims with an excellent dive of 328.60. Sullivan finished the final with a dive of 300.00 which placed him in 8th. Freshman Hayden Elliott 

Senior Ben Doyle's time trial time of 53.50 also qualified as an NCAA B Cut. 

The Nittany Lions are back in action tomorrow and Saturday March 1 with the prelims swims at 10 a.m. and the finals swims at 5 p.m. Tomorrow's events will include the 100 fly, 400 IM, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, three-meter dive and 200 free relay that will be swam after all the finals.
