Women's Golf Wraps Play at Briar's Creek Invitational

JOHN'S ISLAND, S.C.  – The Penn State women's golf team finished the week 15th at the Briar's Creek Invitational at the Golf Club at Briar's Creek in South Carolina following a 9-over, 297, in the final round on Tuesday. The Nittany Lions finished the tournament 34-over, 898.

Michigan State secured the championship as the only team in red figures at 4-under for the week, five shots clear of NC State (1-over) in second. Purdue finished third at 7 -over while Illinois and UCF tied for fourth at 9-over to round out the top-5.

The Nittany Lions were paced by graduate student Mathilde Delavallade (Royan, France) who ended the week tied for 39th at 7-over following rounds of 75-74-74.

Junior Michelle Cox (Allentown, Pa.) had her best round of the week on Tuesday firing a 2-over, 74, to finish the week 9-over and in a tie for 45th position.

The best round of the tournament for Penn State came in the second round on Monday as graduate student Carlota Garcia (Salamanca, Spain) carded a 2-under, 70, the lone round in red figures on the week. Garcia finished the week 12-over and in a tie for 58th.

Junior Drew Nienhaus (St. Louis, Mo.) fired her best round on Tuesday to move up the leaderboard by 14 spots as she finished the day 1-over, 73, and was 13-over for the week.

Senior Victoria Tip-Aucha (Vienna, Va.) rattled off a pair of 76's to close out the week 14-over.

Penn State will have the next month off from competition before returning to the links with the Lady Buckeye on April 13-14 as a final tune-up before the Big Ten Championships the following week.
