No. 8/9 Men's Lacrosse Squares Off Against Marquette in Neutral Site Match-Up

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The No. 8/9 Penn State men's lacrosse team travels to Springfield, Pa. to face Marquette in a neutral site match-up on Saturday, March 16 at 2 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

  • This is just the second time in program history the two teams have met. 
  • Marquette defeated the Nittany Lions in Levittown, N.Y. on March 18, 2023 by a score of 12-11.    

SCOUTING MARQUETTE

  • Marquette enters Saturday with a 3-4 overall record. They are coming off an 11-5 loss to Bellarmine that came on March 9.
  • Leading the offense is Jake Stegman who leads the team with 22 points off eight goals and 14 assists. 
  • In net, sits goalie Caleb Creasor who tallies a 3-4 record, GAA of 11.46 and save percentage of .449. 

CAREER-HIGH MOMENTUM

  • Junior Matt Traynor is currently on track for a career year after he tallied a single game career-high eight points off seven goals and one assist against Cornell on Saturday. 
  • Traynor has tallied at least five points in three of the six games played this season. 
  • On the year, Traynor has recorded 23 goals and 4 assists for 27 points. 

ANOTHER SWEEP OF THE IVY'S

  • For the second straight year, Penn State downed Yale and Cornell in back-to-back games. 
  • The Nittany Lions downed Yale in overtime by a score of 15-14 on March 2 followed by a dominate 20-9 victory over Cornell on March 10. 
  • Last season, Penn State downed three straight Ivy League teams in Penn, Yale, and Cornell. 

200 POINTS FOR MALONE

  • Following TJ Malone's seven point outing against Cornell, TJ Malone surpassed the 200 career
  • In his five years as a Nittany Lion, Malone currently has tallied 123 goals and 83 assists. 
  • He is the fourth Penn State player in program history to hit the mark with Mac O'Keefe the latest Nittany Lion to hit the mark who hit 200 points in 2019. 

MOVING UP

  • Following Penn State's fifth straight victory of the year, the Nittany Lions moved to eight in the latest USILA poll announcement on Monday.
  • The Nittany Lions moved up to nine in the Inside Lacrosse media poll and moved up to four in the USA Lacrosse poll.
