No. 8/9 Men's Lacrosse Downs Marquette, 13-7

SPRINGFIELD, Pa.- The No. 8/9 Penn State men's lacrosse team captured their sixth straight victory with a 13-7 win over Marquette in Springfield, Pa. on Saturday afternoon.
 
HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Penn State fired six unanswered goals in the first quarter to put the Nittany Lions ahead 6-0 after one quarter.
  • After Marquette opened the second quarter with a pair of goals, Will Peden scored his second goal of the game with 5:14 remaining in the half to increase the Nittany Lion lead to 7-2.
  • Marquette answered with two goals to cut the Penn State lead to 7-4 with 3:19 left in the half before Kyle Aldridge and Matt Traynor each scored a goal to put Penn State ahead 9-4 at the half.
  • Both sides only scored one goal in the third quarter before Penn State launched three unanswered goals in the fourth quarter with goals by Peden, TJ Malone, and Mac Costin to put the Nittany Lions ahead 13-5.
  • Marquette closed the game with two goals to result in the 13-7 Nittany Lion victory. 

GOALTENDER

  •  Junior goalie Jack Fracyon captured his sixth win of the season while recording 12 saves.

STATS AND NOTES

  • This is Penn State's first win against Marquette in program history.
  • Sophomore Ryan O'Connor led the Nittany Lion defense with a pair of caused turnovers.
  • Will Peden tallied his second hat-trick of the season.
  • TJ Malone recorded this third straight game of four assists or more.
  • Matt Traynor tallied his seventh straight multi-goal game of the year.
  • Penn State currently holds the best non-conference record in the Big Ten at 6-1.
