University Park, PA – Penn State Men's Rugby returned last week from an 8-day trip to Madrid and Barcelona. An opportunity to learn some valuable lessons in Rugby, and to bond as a group as the team heads into the Spring season playoff push.
The Team traveled 33 members to Spain to play 2 matches in 4 days. While the turnaround between travel and matches was fast, the group took this in stride and fought hard in both matches.
In Madrid the team took on Cisneros Rugby Club and in Barcelona, Sant Cugat. Both teams who sit at the top of their respective competitions. The matches were an opportunity to test out some combinations and experience different styles of rugby from the two regions in Spain.
With Spain in the rearview mirror the team took a trip to Marietta, GA to take on #2 Life University. The first half of the match was a tight affair, both teams exchanging a couple try's and penalties, had Life leading 10-17 at the half. In the Second half Life managed to steal majority of the momentum in the match and really pressured Penn State. Final score, 45-17. The match can be found on FloRugby.
This coming Saturday, 3/23 the Team travels to #1 Navy for the annual spring matchup between the teams. Typically the match has been a curtain raiser for Old Glory DC but with a change of venue for OG, Penn State will travel to Annapolis, MD and take on the Midshipmen at The Brigade Sports Complex, Saturday at 12p. This match will be streamed on the Navy Athletics Youtube (https://www.youtube.com/@NavyAthletics).
Following the Navy match Penn State will play host to Ohio State at 12:00p on Saturday, 30 March for the final regular season match and celebrate our senior class as they take the field at Penn State for one final time.
Playoff spots will be announced on 3/24/23 and will dictate that remaining season schedule.
