UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The Penn State men's tennis team dropped its match, 4-2, against Northwestern on Sunday. Miko Eala picked up wins at No. 1 singles and No. 3 doubles.
DOUBLES
Partnering on court No. 2, Stefan Simeunovic and Jack Martuccio defeated Greyson Casey and Presley Thieneman, 6-4. On court No.3, Miko Eala and Alex Sterin played a close match against Chad Miller and Saiprakash Goli. The match went into a tiebreaker set, resulting in a 7-6(5) victory for the Nittany Lions. The win clinched the doubles point for Penn State.
At No. 1, Nolan Ranger and Ari Coutulas fell 6-2 to Gleb Blekher and Felix Nordby.
SINGLES
Playing at the No. 1 spot, Eala collected his second win of the day, defeating Thieneman, 6-3, 6-1, in a strongly played match.
On court No. 2, Simeunovic kept a close match, fighting strong, but ultimately fell 6-2, 6-7 (7), 6-4 to Blekher. At No. 3, Ranger battled in his match against Goli, but fell 5-7, 6-1, 6-2. Martuccio played in at No. 4, but dropped his match 6-4, 6-4 to Nordby. Sterin took court No. 6, but fell 6-3, 6-2 to Miller.
At the No. 5 spot, Cotoulas took his match to a third set against Casey, just trailing 2-6, 6-2, 3-4 when the match went unfinished as Northwestern had already clinched the match.
UP NEXT
The Nittany Lions travel to Bloomington, Ind. for their first conference away match of the season to face Indiana. The match will be held on Friday, March 29 at 4 p.m. at the IU Tennis Center. The squad will continue their weekend away, travelling to West Lafayette, Ind. to face Purdue. The match is set for Sunday, March 31 at 1 p.m. at the Schwartz Tennis Center.
