UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's gymnasts Luke Esparo and Josh Karnes picked up Big Ten weekly award accolades to wrap up the regular season, the conference announced Monday.
Esparo earns his third Freshman of the Week honor after winning his fourth rings victory of his rookie campaign this past weekend against Illinois. The Wallingford, Ct. native put up his second-best score of the season on the apparatus with a 14.150.
The freshman ranks seventh in the country on rings with his career high score of 14.450. Penn State ranks sixth in the country in the event.
Karnes collects his fourth Gymnast of the Week honor after claiming the parallel bars individual event title with a score of 14.650 against Illinois. The Erie, Pa. native notched a second-place finish on vault with a season high score of 14.650 and a third-place finish on floor with a score of 13.900.
The junior ranks No. 1 in the country on parallel bars. Karnes has been on the top of rankings since the first meet of season on Jan. 5 against Army where he set a season high score of 14.900. He also ranks fifth on floor and eight on high bar.
Penn State will compete at the Big Ten Championships April 5-6 in Champaign, Ill.
