Kerr, Rose Earn EIVA Weekly Awards

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State Men's Volleyball swept the final weekly awards of the EIVA season as John Kerr was named the Offensive Player of the Week and Owen Rose was selected as the Defensive Player of the Week.
 
The eighth-ranked Nittany Lions closed the regular season with a perfect 10-0 record in the EIVA with a pair of wins over No. 16 George Mason, clinching the regular season title and hosting rights to the conference tournament in the process.
 
Kerr hit .449 while averaging 5.61 points, 4.78 kills and 1.44 digs per set over the two wins.  He had 20+ kills in both matches, hitting .524 with 23 kills in a 3-2 victory on Friday and .361 with 20 kills in a four-set match on Saturday. Kerr closed the regular season with double-digit kills in 14 consecutive matches.
 
Rose tallied 12 blocks (1.33/set) in the weekend sweep over the Patriots. He had a huge match in Friday's win, hitting .600 with 13 kills and seven blocks. He then hit .636 with eight kills and five blocks on Saturday. He also closed the second win with a match-clinching ace.
 
Kerr earned his third Offensive Player of the Week award this season, while Rose picked up his first Defensive Player of the Week honor this year.
 
Penn State opens the EIVA Tournament at Rec Hall on Thursday at 7 p.m. The top-seeded Nittany Lions will play the winner of Wednesday's match between fourth-seeded NJIT and fifth-seeded Harvard.
