UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track and field team is set to travel to Charlottesville, Va. for the Virginia Challenge, which will take place at Virginia's Lannigan Field from April 19-20.

Head Coach John Gondak's athletes set a pair of school records at various meets around the world last weekend and are entering competition at Virginia with excellent momentum. Middle-distance superstar Hayley Kitching clocked a 2:00.70 for fifth overall in the 800-meters at the 2024 Australian Athletics Championships while Florence Caron toppled Penn State's 46-year-old women's 5K record with a 15:32.22 at the Bryan Clay Invite in California. At Bucknell's Bison Outdoor Classic, where the rest of the Nittany Lion team was competing, Hayden Healey ran the second-fastest men's 10K by a Nittany Lion since 1987 in his first-ever run at the distance for the Nittany Lions. His 29:14.92 mark is the seventh-fastest 10K in school history.
Caron and sprinter Cheickna Traore were recently recognized as Big Ten Track Athletes of the Week following their performances last weekend. Traore snagged his fourth conference weekly award this season while Caron earned her first-career honor. Penn State has earned 12 Big Ten weekly awards this season, the team's most since 2013.
Penn State once again enters the weekend with four top ten-ranked event squads in Division I. Led by the No. 1 men's shot put team, the Nittany Lions also boast the No. 2 women's 800-meter group, the No. 3 men's 800-meter squad, and the No. 7 women's 5K team.
