Kerr Earns Third-Career AVCA National Player of the Week Award

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – John Kerr was named the AVCA National Player of the Week for the second time this season Tuesday. He earned the honor after leading Penn State Men's Volleyball to the EIVA Tournament title at Rec Hall.

The Nittany Lions made it back-to-back EIVA Tournament titles thanks in large part to a prolific performance from Kerr. The graduate student opposite hitter hit .303 while averaging 6.25 kills and 2.13 digs per set in wins over Harvard and George Mason. He added four aces, including one to clinch the championship match with the final point.

Kerr opened the tournament with huge numbers, matching a career high with 31 kills in just four sets against Harvard. He followed that with a double-double of 19 kills and 12 digs in a 3-1 win over George Mason in the championship match. Kerr was voted the Tournament MVP after the Nittany Lions secured the trophy and the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.

Kerr won the AVCA National Player of the Week award for the third time in his career. He joins Keith Kowal as the only two Nittany Lions to ever accomplish that feat.

Penn State earned the No. 5 seed in the NCAA Tournament and opens against No. 4 seed UC Irvine. The match is scheduled for 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Long Beach State's Walter Pyramid.
