UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 7/8 Penn State men's lacrosse team continues Big Ten play on the road on Saturday as they take on No. 10/7 Johns Hopkins at 2 p.m.

SERIES HISTORY

  • This is the 19th meeting between Johns Hopkins and Penn State.
  • Johns Hopkins leads the series 13-5 with the last match-up coming on April 8, 2023, where the Nittany Lions defeated the Blue Jays in overtime 12-11. 

SCOUTING JOHNS HOPKINS

  • Johns Hopkins enters Saturday with a 7-3 overall record and 2-0 record in Big Ten play.
  • They are coming off an 15-11 win to Michigan that came on March 30.
  • Leading the offense is Jacob Angelus who leads the team with 45 points off 17 goals and 28 assists.
  • In net, sits goalie Chayse Ierlan who tallies a 7-3 record, GAA of 10.03 and save percentage of .550. 

NITTANY LIONS IN THE RANKINGS

  • Penn State men's lacrosse graduate attackman TJ Malone has been on a tear this season. Nationally, he ranks fifth in assists per game at 3.25 and third in points per game 5.75, leading the Big Ten in both categories. On the year, Malone has a total of 46 points off 20 goals and 26 assists.
  • Junior Matt Traynor currently sits second in the Big Ten in goals per game at 3.11 per game while he sits eighth in the nation in the same category. Traynor tallies 28 goals and five assists for 36 points.
  • Goalie Jack Fracyon currently sits 15th in the nation in GAA at 9.76 while placing second in the Big Ten. He sits first in the Big Ten in save percentage at .565 while sitting 11th nationally.

  • Following Penn State's loss to Maryland, the Nittany Lions moved to number seven in the latest USILA poll announcement on Monday.
  • The Nittany Lions moved up to eight in the Inside Lacrosse media poll and moved to the five spot in the USA Lacrosse poll. 

BROTHERS UNITE

  • Brothers Mac and Will Costin have been having a great year on offense for Mac and on defense for Will.
  • Mac currently has tallied 18 goals and two assists for 20 points this season in nine games played.
  • He is just two goals away from tying his career-high that he reached in 2022 with 20.
  • Will is currently tied for second on the team in caused turnovers with seven on the year. He has also scooped 11 ground balls.
  • He's already surpassed the amount of caused turnovers he had in his freshman season which was two.
