SPARKS, Md. – Penn State women's lacrosse had five student-athletes land on the USA Lacrosse DI All-American list, announced by the organization Thursday morning. Kristin O'Neill was placed on the second team, while Kayla Abernathy, Sammy Dupcak, Gretchen Gilmore and Ellie Hollin earned an honorable mention.
The group most recently earned All-Big Ten honors. O'Neill and Hollin were placed on the first team and Abernathy, Dupcak and Gilmore on the second team.
O'Neill earns USA Lacrosse All-American honors for the second consecutive time in her career. She was placed on the third team last season. The senior leads the Nittany Lions in points with 52 coming from 45 goals and seven assists. O'Neill ranks third in the country in free position goals per game with 1.28 per game.
Abernathy claims her first All-American honor from the organization. The senior leads the team with 73 draws. She most recently surpassed 200 career draws.
Dupcak also earns her first USA Lacrosse All-American honorable mention. Dupcak has scooped up 19 ground balls this season and caused 17 turnovers.
Gilmore earns her second consecutive honorable mention honor from USA Lacrosse. Gilmore is second on the team with 50 points (40 goals, 10 assists). The senior surpassed 100 career points this season against Johns Hopkins.
Hollin earns her second consecutive honorable mention honor from USA Lacrosse. Hollin is the anchor the Nittany Lion defense, she has scooped up 20 ground balls and caused 20 turnovers.
The Nittany Lions finished the regular season 9-6 (4-2 B1G) and defeated Ohio State and Rutgers in the Big Ten Tournament to advance to the conference championship for just the third time in program history.
The team will now continue their post season journey in the NCAA Tournament in the first round against No. 19 James Madison on Friday, May 10 at 3 p.m.
