UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Current Penn State Women's Volleyball standout Jess Mruzik was named to the U.S. National Team roster for the NORCECA Final Six Pan American Cup, as announced by USA Volleyball on Friday. The event will take place in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic on June 26-30.
Mruzik is one of 14 players on the roster, while Penn State is one of 10 schools represented by that group. It will mark her U.S. National Team debut. Mruzik is one of four listed at outside hitter on the roster.
USA is the defending champion at the NORCECA Final Six. Former Penn State All-American Simone Lee was the MVP at last year's event.
Mruzik, a graduate student at Penn State, is coming off her debut season for the Nittany Lions. She quickly added her name to a long-list of All-Americans from the program, earning second-team recognition after a prolific season that helped Penn State advance to the NCAA Regional Semifinal. She was also a first-team All-Big Ten selection.
Mruzik's numbers last season put her in the top five in program history during the 25-point rally scoring era in numerous categories. Her 4.94 points/set and 4.40 kills/set both rank second, while her 583.5 points and 519 kills rank third on the individual lists.
USA opens the NORCECA Final Six against Mexico on Wednesday and then plays Canada on Friday. The semifinal round is on June 29, while the championship match is set for June 30.
