Sam Zakutney Qualifies for Team Canada for 2024 Paris Olympics

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State men's gymnastics alumnus Sam Zakutney has earned a spot on Team Canada for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
 
Zakutney, who competed for the Nittany Lions from 2017-2020, was a four-time All-American during his time in the Blue & White. He helped lead the Nittany Lions to their fourth Big Ten Championship in program history in 2019. That year he won the individual Big Ten title on parallel bars. His other accolades include 2017 Big Ten Freshman of the Year and a Nissen-Emery Award finalist.
 
Zakutney was the Canadian all-around champion in 2019. He also earned gold on vault, parallel bars and horizontal bar. He took on sliver on floor.
 
The Ottawa, Ontario native competed at the Canadian Championships this past weekend in Quebec where he placed fourth in the all-around with a two-day score of 163.446. His best event score was on parallel bars where he scored a 14.566 on day two.
 
Zakutney overcame a plethora of injuries to punch his ticket to the Olympics and now he becomes the first Penn State male gymnast to compete in the Olympics since 2012.
