Track & Field Prepared for NCAA Outdoor Championships

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State track and field team travels to Eugene, Oregon for the 2024 NCAA Division I Track & Field Championships. The Nittany Lions' Cheickna Traore enters competition at the NCAA Championships following the greatest meet of his life at the 2024 NCAA East Region First Round competition. Traore achieved the Olympic Standard in the 200-meter dash, crossing the line in 19.93 as the top overall qualifier in the quarterfinal race, lowering his own school record and Ivory Coast national record. The superstar also helped Penn State's 4x400-meter relay team (Handal Roban, Pat Abel, Olivier Desmeules) advance to the NCAA Championships with a 44.00 anchor split. Traore finished just one spot out of a qualifying mark in the 100-meter dash as well, clocking a Penn State school record-setting 10.15.

A pair of men's 800-meter stars round out the men's contingent set for national competition for Penn State, as Roban and Yukichi Ishii will both toe the line against the best in the nation in the half-mile.

Running just her second-ever 10K, Florence Caron advanced to the NCAA Championships in the event as the first Nittany Lion to punch a ticket at this year's East Region First Round meet. Joining the two-time Big Ten Champ on the women's side is Hayley Kitching, the middle-distance star sophomore who is no stranger to NCAA competition. Kitching finished fourth in the nation in the 800-meters during indoor season and seeks to compete well against a strong field of runners once again at the outdoor championship meet.
