UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Former Penn State women’s rugby member Kayla Canett helped the USA Rugby Eagles Sevens to earn a Bronze medal at the 2024 Paris Olympics.
The USA squad earned wins over Japan (36-7) and Brazil (24-5) while going 2-1 in pool play. After a 17-7 win over Great Britain in the quarterfinals, the USA fell 24-12 against New Zealand in the semifinals. The USA bounced back for a 14-12 win over Australia in the Bronze medal match.
In the opening match against Japan, Canett scored on three conversions. She attempted one conversion in the matchup against Brazil and was successful on a conversion attempt against France.
Canett contributed one conversion in the quarterfinal contest against Great Britain and attempted one conversion against New Zealand in the semifinals.
She made her second appearance in the Olympic games after playing with the USA Rugby Sevens squad in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.
After debuting with the USA National Team in 2017, in both fifteens and sevens, she has competed in two Rugby World Cups (Ireland 2017, XVs; Cape Town 2022, 7s).
She entered the Olympics with 29 caps with the 7s and 10 with the XVs as a flyhalf.
Canett helped Penn State to a national championship in 2017.
