UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – The Penn State women’s soccer program announced themes and promotions for nine matches, in addition to releasing kickoff times for all 10 contests at Jeffrey Field on Thursday afternoon.
PSU’s 2024 campaign kicks off on Thursday, August 15, at 7 p.m. (ET) on Big Ten Network, with the match serving as the program’s annual Youth Sports Day to celebrate the growth and success of youth soccer in Central Pennsylvania. The Nittany Lions’ annual March to the Match, in concurrence with Penn State University Welcome Week, is slated for a B1G/ACC battle between the Blue & White and the Virginia Cavaliers on Thursday night, August 22 beginning at 5:30 p.m. (ET).
Penn State’s first Sunday match of the season against Division II challenger West Chester is slated for a 1 p.m. (ET) kickoff. The Nittany Lions’ border rivalry with West Virginia is renewed on Thursday, August 29, as the Blue & White celebrate Military Appreciation Night in a 7:30 p.m. (ET) contest. The 2024 Nittany Lion Big Ten Conference opener against the Michigan Wolverines will serve as the team’s annual Pride Night in conjunction with the Penn State Center for Sexual and Gender Diversity, slated to kick off at 7:30 p.m. (ET) on the evening of Thursday, September 12.
The Blue & White conclude the non-conference portion of the 2024 campaign on Sunday afternoon, September 15, with a 1 p.m. (ET) kickoff scheduled against the Columbia Lions out of the Ivy League. Penn State and Columbia’s match will serve as Senior Day presented by the Penn State Alumni Association, the largest alumni network in the world. The Blue & White will honor their 2024 senior class in a ceremony preceding the match, with live streaming of both the ceremony and contest available via B1G+. PSU returns to conference play on Thursday night, September 19, with a battle against the Northwestern Wildcats beginning at 7 p.m. (ET). Penn State’s battle with the Wildcats will serve as Jersey Night, where fans and students are invited to wear their favorite team’s soccer jersey to celebrate.
One of the most highly anticipated matches of the 2024 calendar kicks off on Big Ten Network at 2 p.m. (ET) on Sunday, September 19, as the Nittany Lions battle the defending B1G Regular Season Co-Champion Michigan State Spartans in a nationally televised affair. The match will be the Blue & White’s annual Wear White contest, with all fans encouraged to wear white in recognition of the pivotal home matchup. An intense rivalry battle with the Rutgers Scarlet Knights will kick off at 5 p.m. (ET) on Friday, October 4, with the contest serving as the first half of a doubleheader with the Nittany Lion men’s soccer program. The women’s match against Rutgers will be the team’s Pink Match in solidarity with the fight against Breast Cancer, with the men’s match against the UCLA Bruins to follow approximately 30 minutes after the conclusion of the women’s. PSU closes out the 2024 home calendar against the Minnesota Golden Gophers on Sunday, October 13 beginning at 1 p.m. (ET), with the home finale serving as the team’s Down Syndrome Awareness Match.
Fresh off a 16-3-4 campaign a season ago highlighted by an astounding 13-1-1 overall record in home competitions at Jeffrey Field, the Nittany Lions return to action for their 31st varsity campaign in 2024. The Blue & White battled for their first appearance in the National Quarterfinals since 2018 a season ago, falling just short of the program’s sixth Women’s College Cup appearance. Penn State extended its NCAA Tournament appearance streak to 29 consecutive bids, cementing PSU’s place as the second-longest active streak in the nation. The Blue & White will celebrate their 31st season playing on Jeffrey Field in 2024, having welcomed over 323,000 fans to the friendly confines since the team’s inaugural match in 1994.
