UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State cross country’s Nick Sloff collected the Big Ten’s Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week and Men’s Freshman of the Week honors following his win at the Dolan Duals last week, the conference announced Wednesday.
The redshirt freshman competed in his first in-uniform meet for the Nittany Lions on Friday, winning the Dolan Duals with a 17:55.1 6K time. Sloff helped the Penn State men to a team win in their season-opener last week as one of two runners to clock a sub-18:00 time.
The State College native earns the first Big Ten weekly awards of his career and becomes the first Nittany Lion to take home the Big Ten Men’s Cross Country Freshman of the Week award, introduced by the conference this year. He is the first Penn State runner to collect a cross country weekly award from the Big Ten since teammate Ryan Watson did so following last season’s Dolan Duals.
Sloff and the Nittany Lions are set to host their first and only regular season home meet of the season Friday, Sept. 13. The Spiked Shoe Invitational is set to begin with the women’s 6K at 10 a.m., followed by the men’s 5.2-mile at 10:45 a.m.
