UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. – Penn State setter Izzy Starck picked up the season’s first Big Ten Women’s Volleyball Freshman of the Week award after leading the seventh-ranked Nittany Lions to road wins over No. 15 Tennessee and Temple over the weekend.
Starck made her collegiate debut in a 3-1 win over the Volunteers on Friday and made an immediate impact with a double-double, racking up 42 assists and 12 digs while leading Penn State to .343 hitting.
She then became the first Penn State freshman to make multiple starts at setter to open the season since Alisha Glass in 2006 while guiding the Nittany Lions to a sweep at Temple on Sunday. She finished with 27 assists and five digs.
Starck and Penn State now turn their attention to a top-10 matchup at Rec Hall as the seventh-ranked Nittany Lions host No. 4 Louisville on Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. The match will air live on B1G Network.
