UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - The No. 12/12 Penn State women's ice hockey team fell to No. 13/13 in the team’s season opener on Thursday night by a score of 3-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Nittany Lions opened the scoring with a goal by Katelyn Roberts with 11:28 remaining in the first period to give Penn State a 1-0 lead.
- Northeastern answered less than a minute later with 10:46 left in the frame off a goal by Skylar Irving.
- In the second period after a pair of Penn State penalties, Northeastern scored on the five on three power-play off a goal by Lily Shannon to give the Huskies a 2-1 lead.
- Then in closing minutes of the third period, Eloise Caron scored on the empty net to secure the 3-1 victory for Northeastern.
STATS AND NOTES
- Katelyn Roberts potted her first goal of the season.
- Tessa Janecke added an assist to tally her 62nd of her career.
- There was a total of 13 penalties in the game.
- Northeastern now leads the all-time series 2-1.
