UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. - A two-goal rally in the second period by the No. 12/12 Penn State women's ice hockey team led the team to a 2-1 victory over No. 13/13 Northeastern on Friday afternoon.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Northeastern tallied the first goal of the game off a shot from Skylar Irving at 19:40 into the first period to give the Huskies 1-0 lead.
- The Nittany Lions answered in the second period as Tessa Janecke scored her first goal of the season off feeds by Karley Garcia and Katelyn Roberts to even the score at 1-1 with 6:22 remaining in the frame.
- Three minutes later, Maddy Christian would score her first goal of the season off an assist by Janecke and Karolina Hengelmüller to take a 2-1 lead with 3:20 remaining the period.
- The Nittany Lion defense would hold off the Huskies attack in the third period which led to Penn State's first victory of the season.
GOALTENDERS
- Goalie Katie DeSa tallied 17 saves on 18 shots attempted to improve her record to 1-1 on the season.
STATS AND NOTES
- The series history between Northeastern is now tied at 2-2.
- Tessa Janecke tallied a goal and assist to increase her career points total to 103.
- Maddy Christian recorded her seventh goal of her career.
- Penn State improves to 1-1 on the year.
