THIS WEEK

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. -- The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team (0-2, 0-0 B1G), under the guidance of head coach Lisa Bervinchak Love, hits the road for the first time this weekend. Penn State is at St. Joseph’s (1-1) on Friday, Sept. 6, at 3 p.m. and at Delaware (0-1*) on Sunday, Sept. 8, at 12 p.m.. *Delaware is at Bucknell on Sept. 6 as well.

The Nittany Lions are coming off an 0-2 opening weekend against two top ten teams. Penn State dropped a close 2-1 game to No. 3 Virginia in the season opener at home on Friday, Aug. 30. Phia Gladieux scored Penn State’s goal while true freshman Aby Deverka was superb in the cage, collecting 11 saves against the third-ranked Cavaliers. Two days later, Penn State fell 2-1 to No. 10 Syracuse. Gladieux once again notched Penn State’s goal.

Gladieux leads Penn State with four points off two goals. Grad Julienne van Bekkum had an assist in the Virginia game. Deverka collected 14 saves in the opening weekend. Penn State played six true freshmen against the two ACC foes in the its first two games: Deverka and center back Morgan Snyder started both games while forward Katelyn Strawser and mid/forwards Carly Seal, Riley O’Donnell and Kerry O’Donnell all logged extensive minutes.

St. Joseph’s is coming off a 1-1 weekend. The Hawks lost a 5-4 overtime game to UConn on opening night and then downed New Hampshire 4-2 last Sunday. Penn State has an 11-0 lead in the all-time series between the two schools.

Delaware enters the weekend with an 0-1 mark after a season-opening 1-0 loss to Lafayette last Sunday. Penn State has a 19-7-2 lead in the all-time series.

Penn State has two games next weekend, visiting Kent State on Friday, Sept. 13, at 3 p.m. and hosting Princeton on Sunday, Sept. 15, at 12 p.m.

The Penn State Field Hockey Complex has some new policies in place! Check out the key ones heading into the 2024 season:
• Gates open 1 hour prior to game time 
• The Field Hockey Complex is not a clear bag facility, however, bags 
brought into the facility will be checked upon entrance
• Outside food and beverages are prohibited. Concessions will be avail
able for purchase  
• Pets, except for service animals, are prohibited from inside the stadium. 
 
GLADIEUX SCORES TWICE, DEVERKA TALLIES 14 SAVES IN TOP-TEN OPENING WEEKEND
Senior Phia Gladieux scored goals in each of Penn State’s opening weekend games and true freshman Aby Deverka collected 14 total saves against two top-ten ACC opponents. Gladieux had Penn State’s goal (from a Julienne van Bekkum assist) and Deverka had 11 saves in Penn State’s 2-1 loss to No. 3 Virginia on opening night, Friday, Aug. 30. Two days later on Sept. 1, Gladieux scored again and Deverka had three saves in a 2-1 loss to No. 10 Syracuse.
 
DEVERKA EARNS B1G FRESHMAN OF THE WEEK HONORS ON OPENING WEEKEND
True freshman Aby Deverka tallied 14 saves against No. 3 Virginia and No. 10 Syracuse on opening weekend for Penn State, her first collegiate games. Starting from the onset, Deverka had 11 saves against the third-ranked Cavaliers and three against No. 10 Syracuse and was honored as Big Ten Freshman of the Week (9/3/24) to begin the season.
 
THREE LIONS NAMED TO B1G PRE-SEASON PLAYERS TO WATCH LIST
Sophia Gladieux, Drew Taylor and Sophia Mannino were named to the Big Ten Preseason Players to Watch list, released by the conference prior to the start of the 2024 season.
 
SENIOR TRIO NAMED 2024 TEAM CAPTAINS
The Penn State Nittany Lion field hockey team voted seniors Phia Gladieux, Julia Lamb and Drew Taylor as team captains during the second week of preseason practice. This marks the first time each of these Nittany Lions has been voted captain by her teammates.

* Parking is allowed in Jordan East and Stadium West
* Parking for Yellow H Shields is available after 4pm on Fridays and on the weekends 
* East Deck at $1 an hour as it’s the closest hourly parking space. 
* Please make sure your correct license plate is uploaded on your park mobile account. Parking rates are subject to change day of due to other events on campus. 
* Doors for the Stadium opens 1 hour before game time. No outside food or drink is allowed inside the stadium.
 
Parking remains available on https://psu.parkmobile.io/field-hockey-complex, with presales at $5.50 until 12:01am the day of the event, and continuing through the event at $10.  Parking purchased for Stadium West is valid in the Yellow H Shields and Wagner lots beginning at 5pm on weekdays and all weekend, except when the lot is held for Men’s Hockey games and select other events.  
 
New this year, day of parking will also be available through ParkMobile and Honk, the new on-demand parking provider for campus.  There will be NO CASH sales this year.  When Field Hockey overlaps with Bryce Jordan Center events at a higher rate, purchases on psu.parkmobile.io will end 2 hours prior to the event, after which the day of price will be the higher of the rates.
