Owusu Named to Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- Penn State women's basketball's Ashley Owusu earns her first Big Ten Weekly honor as a Lady Lion. The two-time All-American led Penn State to two conference wins against Purdue and Nebraska last week, averaging 19.5 points, 5.5 rebounds and 2.5 assists to earn a spot on the conference weekly honor roll. She becomes the fourth Lady Lion to garner a spot on the Big Ten Weekly Honor Roll this season.

Owusu made her first appearance wearing the blue and white in Penn State's historic 1,000th program win over Rutgers on Sunday, Jan. 14. The graduate guard compiled 18 points, five rebounds and five assists in her first game in 322 days. Owusu continued her success through her first full week of competition, scoring at least 18 points and grabbing five rebounds in all three of her performances thus far.

The Virginia native is no stranger to accolades including those from the Big Ten Conference. Owusu spent three seasons playing at the University of Maryland. During her time in College Park, she was a three-time All-Big Ten selection and a two-time All-American. Owusu took home the 2021 Ann Meyers Drysdale Award, the highest honor for a shooting guard in women's college basketball. She also led the Terrapins to two Big Ten Tournament titles and earned the Jim & Kitty Delany Most Outstanding Player Award after both of her postseason appearances.

The talented shooting guard joined the Lady Lions as a graduate transfer during the summer of 2023 after three years at Maryland and a stint at Virginia Tech before she was sidelined in Blacksburg due to injury.

Owusu and the rest of the Lady Lions basketball team return to the court this week for a pair of Big Ten games at Northwestern on Thursday, Jan. 25 and at home hosting Maryland on Sunday, Jan. 28.
