Men's Tennis defeats Temple 4-3

UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa.- The Penn State Men's Tennis team won its match against Temple, 4-3, on Sunday at the Indoor Tennis Center. 
 

"I think coming back from a very tough match on Friday, coming back to another tough team, I think we bounced back well. I thought we played better doubles today, which is going to be an important part of our season going forward," Head coach Jeff Zinn said, "If we just can get better from each match, just a little bit better from each match, to the next match, we'll be fine, and today we were. I'm proud of the way the guys played today"
 

DOUBLES 

Partners Miko Eala and Stefan Simeunovic finished quickly, defeating Dante Russo and Paul Hannack in a 6-1 match on court one. 

Loren Byers and Jack Martuccio kept the score tight, bringing the match into a tiebreak on court three. The duo beat Martim Marujo and Adam Kresina, 7-6(3), securing the doubles point for Penn State. 

Alex Sterin and Nolan Ranger fought strong, but fell 6-3 to Erden Er and Henrique Petiz at No. 2. 

SINGLES 

Martuccio finished his match first, claiming a 6-0, 6-1 victory over Er at No. 4. 

Eala was next on the board, winning his matchup, 6-1, 6-1, against Marujo at the top position. 

Simeunovic played a close match and came up clutch in the first set to win a tiebreak. He finished strong, defeating Hannack 7-6(5), 6-0. His win at No. 3 clinched the match point for the Nittany Lions. 

Byers battled a tough match against Russo, but ultimately fell 6-4, 6-4 at No. 3. Ranger fought his way up, but dropped his match 6-4, 7-6(5) to Kresina at the No. 5 spot. Sterin brought the match to a deciding third set, but fell short 6-7 (5), 6-3, 10-8 to Bhat at No. 6. 

UP NEXT 

The Nittany Lions will be play two doubleheaders at home next weekend. The squad will face Delaware and Lehigh on Saturday, Feb. 3 starting at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m., respectively. On Sunday, Feb. 4, the men will face Georgetown and Mount St. Mary's starting at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. as well. Both events will be played at the Indoor Tennis Center.
