Men’s Soccer Falls to Washington on the Road

SEATTLE – Penn State men’s soccer dropped their second all-time meeting against Washington, 3-1, Friday evening at Husky Soccer Stadium.

The Nittany Lions fall to 5-7-2 overall and 2-4-2 in the Big Ten. Washington improves to 5-4-5 in 2024 and 2-3-3 in conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED

FIRST HALF

The first shot on goal was by sophomore Freddie Bell in the 16th minute. Christian Dionne made a cross in the box to Bell, but the midfielder’s shot was just too wide.

Washington got on the board first Zach Ramsey made a solid cross to Peter Kingston who headed the ball past goalkeeper Andrew Cooke in the 25th minute.

In the 31st minute, Ramsey drew a foul in the box which awarded the Huskies a penalty kick.  Charlie Kosakoff sent a shot to the bottom right of the net to put Washington up by a pair.

 SECOND HALF

The Nittany Lions had three scoring opportunities within 30 seconds of each other 15 minutes into the second half but were unable to capitalize. It wasn’t until the 63^rd minute when sophomore Morgan Marshall sent a perfect cross to Aboubacar Camara who made a move past a Washington defender and launched a shot past the keeper to cut the deficit by one.

The Huskies quickly responded five minutes later with a goal of their own from Kingston to extend their lead, 3-1.

In the 77th minute, Chase Oliver ripped a shot in the box, but it was blocked by a Washington defender. Malick Daouda collected the deflection and sent it to Marshall who’s shot nearly got past the Huskies’ keeper.

MATCH NOTES

• Aboubacar Camara scored his fifth goal of the season. Morgan Marshall notched his second assist of 2024.
• Sean Bettenhausen and Christian Dionne made their returns to the starting lineup.
• Goalkeeper Andrew Cooke registered three saves in the 90 minutes.
• Washington held the 11-9 advantage on shots and the 9-3 edge on corner kicks.
• Chase Oliver led the offensive efforts for the Nittany Lions with four shots.

Penn State men’s soccer will return to Happy Valley for their final home regular season match on Saturday, October 26 at 7 p.m. (ET). The Nittany Lions will honor five seniors post-match in Sean Bettenhausen, Van Danielson, Atem Kato and Ben Liscum. The program will also celebrate former head coach Herb Schmidt at halftime.
